Fiscal reminders
State funded purchase orders for 2011-12 will be closed or deleted after Monday, June 18. Units should make certain that goods/services are delivered/rendered and an invoice received in Accounts Payable before Friday, June 15. Unused purchase orders on state funds will not carry over to the next fiscal year (2012-13). In those instances where there are unused purchase orders, a new purchase order must be created in AGGIE-MART on Monday, July 2.
The Accounting Office’s final check cycle for the year is on Thursday, June 28. The last day to submit check requests and invoices on purchase orders and have them entered into the system is on Friday, June 15. However, payment would be determined based on availability of funds.
Travel advances/reimbursements must be submitted no more than 30 days after a trip. Submit all outstanding advances to be reconciled. Otherwise, it may negatively impact your next request for an advance. Keep in mind that the close out process sometimes limits the ability to write checks in the new fiscal year, especially on state funds. Therefore, those traveling in the first two weeks of July (or some other need) should plan accordingly.
The last day to make deposits in the Treasurer’s Office for the current fiscal year is Friday, June 29, at 2 p.m.
Construction award
The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering building at Gateway University Research Park, South Campus, has been honored with the Star Award as 2012’s most outstanding new construction project in North Carolina.
The award is presented annually by the Construction Professionals Network of North Carolina. The JSNN building won in the over $20 million category. The other category, under $20 million, also was won by a Greensboro project, the International Civil Rights Center and Museum.
Projects are selected on their merits and challenges. Criteria include the project’s outcome, overall project management, quality management, cost management, schedule management, project complexity, and innovation and creativity.
Campus queens
EBONY magazine’s annual HBCU Campus Queens feature will appear in the September 2012 issue. Ten women will grace the pages of the magazine. Moore and Chance W. Lewis, Peter Lang Publishers.

Dr. Inez Tuck, dean of the School of Nursing, is the lead author of an article that was chosen as the May 2012 Article of the Month by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education Research Network. “Sacred healing stories told at the end of life” is published in the June issue of Journal of Holistic Nursing (Vol. 30, No. 2, pp. 69-80).
Dr. Tara Wade, postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Economics and Finance, presented the research paper, “Using the logit model with aggregated choice data in estimation of Iowa corn farmers’ conservation tillage subsidies,” at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Economic and Research Service in Washington, D.C., on April 19.
