Proposal workshop

The Division of Research and Economic Development will host a Lunch & Learn Workshop, "Proposal Budget Development," Tuesday, Sept. 28, 12-1 p.m. in Fort IRC, room 410. Adonica Williams, grant administrator in the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, will present a workshop that is designed for current and future principal investigators (PIs) and support staff who are involved in preparing budgets for grant proposals.

 

Participants will receive the basics of grant budgeting and terms such as direct costs, indirect costs, allowable costs and cost sharing. Register for the workshop at www.ncat.edu/~divofres/services/training.php. Feel free to bring lunch.

Football parking and traffic patterns

Beware, game day traffic patterns for the 2010 football season have changed. Lindsay Street is closed to traffic from Headquarters Drive to Sullivan Street (front of Aggie Stadium). A special parking permit is needed to gain access to Aggie Stadium Lot A3 and Lot A4 (enter via Lindsay Street and Headquarters Drive). All other traffic is detoured south from Bessemer Avenue. Sullivan Street is closed to traffic from Benbow Road to Lindsay Street (adjacent to Aggie Stadium). Parking is by permit only.

 

Tailgating in the Laurel Street lot is now $25 per space. Handicap parking is $5 per space in Lot A3, the Laurel Street lot and the Obermeyer Street deck. Shuttle service is available from the Laurel and Obermeyer facilities.

Graduate Studies

The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is recruiting sophomores and juniors who are interested in pursuing graduate study. STEM majors are highly encouraged to apply. The criteria include first-generation and low income or a member of a group underrepresented in graduate education, an overall GPA of 3.00, and academic potential and a desire to pursue graduate study leading to a doctoral degree. Incentives include but are not limited to assistance with graduate admissions, application fee waivers, GRE prep, cultural experiences, fellowships, and research internship with stipend.

Vivian Barnette

Vivian Barnette, director of counseling services, has been nominated to serve on the Central Carolina Health Network (CCHN) Board. CCHN is a regional hub for brokering, coordinating and developing comprehensive, care services for HIV infected and affected individuals and families throughout the Piedmont Triad area. CCHN serves persons affected by HIV in the six-county area including Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph and Rockingham counties. The network also serves the housing needs of HIV positive individuals in Davidson County.

Jorge Gaytan and Lisa Gueldenzoph Snyder

Jorge Gaytan, associate professor and Lisa Gueldenzoph Snyder, associate professor and interim chair, both of the department of business education, have published a chapter, "Working with English Language Learners: Teaching, Assessment, and Administrative Strategies to Effectively Meet Academic Challenges," in the 2010 edition of the National Business Education Association Yearbook, Cross Cultural and International Business Education.

 

Beryl McEwen

Beryl McEwen, professor in the department of business education and interim associate dean in the School of Business and Economics, has published a chapter, "Cross-Cultural and International Career Exploration and Employability Skills," in the 2010 edition of the National Business Education Association Yearbook, Cross Cultural and International Business Education.

Conchita Ndege

Conchita Ndege, professor in the department of history, has been appointed to the board of The Wake Forest University Museum of Anthropology and as chair of the board’s Programs Committee. The first proposed program is "Celebrating Faces of North Carolina- Native Americans: The Cherokee of the Smokey Mountains," which will be held Thursday, Oct. 21, at the museum.


Ndege also has been approved by the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Winston-Salem to represent the group at the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps next year in Washington, D.C. She served in the Peace Corps from 1969 until 1971 in Uganda, Africa.

 

Paula E. Faulkner

Paula E. Faulkner, assistant professor in the agriscience education department, is included in The Chronicle of Higher Education special report on diversity this week.
