Each semester, English Professor Kiera Davis challenges The African American Experience classes she teaches to research plights and issues within minority communities. As a part of the challenge, her students have to find out which issues are recurring and to think creatively about how the issues can be resolved.
“I also want them to be a part of the solution,” she said during her interview on the A&T Today radio show.
At the beginning of the semester, Davis issues a charge to her classes to work together as a team to help make changes for the respective areas in which they have identified.
During the spring semester, her classes identified a need with The Arc of Greenboro and Seven Homes Foster Care and Adoption Agency.
The Arc provides services and enrichment activities for children and adults with intellectual and related developmental delays. Seven Homes provides services and homes to children in need.
The classes spent time playing baseball with clients from The Arc and held a clothing drive and raised money for Seven Homes.
