Former Student Government Association president and North Carolina A&T alum Terrence Jenkins has landed his first starring role in the Will Packer-produced, Tim Story-directed feature film, “Think Like A Man.”
The movie is based on a book written by Steve Harvey and Denene Millner, “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man.” Jenkins plays Michael, the “Mama’s boy” in a group of five friends whose characters are based on the types of men identified in the book.
“Everything is normal until their women read the book and things start to change,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins and Packer visited   N.C. A&T campus to promote the movie and to offer campus community members an opportunity to screen the movie a week in advance.
“It’s been the most humbling experience in the world,” Jenkins said about his return to A&T.
“I’m more excited to see you than you are to see me. Words can’t express how it feels.”
Jenkins said it was Packer’s idea for him to return to his alma mater, just as Packer returned to FAMU, to show his family the exciting work he’s been doing.
“I wanted to allow Terrence an opportunity to bring this back home,” Packer said in a press conference.
“The response here will determine whether or not he can bring his next film here.”
Packer, one of the youngest producers in the film industry, has produced films such as “Takers,” “Obsessed,” “This Christmas,” “Stomp the Yard” and others.
He said Jenkins was a part of the dream cast he imagined for this film and that he was impressed with Jenkins’ work.
“Terrence came in and he earned the respect of all his peers,” Packer said.
Jenkins said working with Packer and his fraternity brother, Harvey, was like a dream come true for him.
“I kept thinking it was a dream and I’d walk in and Columbus Short would be in my trailer,” Jenkins said.
During their time on campus, Jenkins and Packer visited WNAA 90.1 for an interview, participated in a press conference with local media and student journalists and attended a pep rally in honor of Jenkins and the movie.
“Think Like A Man” opens nationwide in theaters April 20. Jenkins’ co-stars include Oscar-nominated actress, Taraji P. Henson, comedian Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy, Jenifer Lewis and Chris Brown. |
