Dmitri Stockton ’86, president and CEO of GE Asset Management, will be the keynote speaker for North Carolina A&T State University’s spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 12, at the Greensboro Coliseum. The ceremony will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m., and all participants should remain through the recessional.
A 25-year GE veteran, Stockton most recently served as president and CEO of GE Capital’s Global Banking unit based in London. Earlier in his GE career he held roles as CEO for GE Capital Bank in Switzerland, president and CEO of GE Money’s Central and Eastern European Banking Group, and senior vice president and chief risk officer for GE Mortgage Corporation.
Stockton is a senior vice president of GE Company and a member of GE’s Corporate Executive Council. He is also a member of the Executive Leadership Council, U.S. Institute, Pension Managers Advisory Committee, the Executive Advisory Council at North Carolina A&T State University School of Business and Economics, and on the Boards of GE Foundation, A Better Chance, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. He is a former board member of Garanti Bank (Turkey), Bank BPH (Poland) and BAC Credomatic Bank (Central America).
During his career, Stockton has received numerous recognitions and awards including being selected as one of Black Enterprise Magazine’s 100 Most Powerful in Corporate America (2009) and 75 Most Powerful on Wall Street (2011). In January, Stockton was listed by Savoy Magazine’s as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America.
Stockton is an inductee in the National Black College Hall of Fame and has been recognized by Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society as the Business Information Professional of the Year (2005) and Beta Gamma Sigma with the Business Achievement Award (2007). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from North Carolina A&T State University and resides in Raleigh, N.C., with his wife Renee and two daughters.
SMALL FARMS WEEK
TO BE OBSERVED
The Cooperative Extension Program at North Carolina A&T State University will celebrate its 26th annual Small Farms Week, March 25–31.
Registration is open and the registration deadline for the kickoff, workshops and luncheon is Monday, March 19. The $25 registration fee is waived for farmers currently active in small-scale agriculture.
The celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, at the Jamesville Community Fire Department in Martin County, which is home to the 2011 Small Farmer of the Year, Thomas Pierce of J&J Farm.
On Tuesday, March 27, an educational forum will feature tours of two farms where livestock and produce production are innovatively amalgamated. (The tour will depart at 12:30 p.m. from the United House of Prayer parking lot across Market Street from Coltrane Hall.)
Wednesday, March 28, will open at 9 a.m. in Stallings Ballroom with an educational forum that covers meat cuts, value-added livestock products, and poultry, beef and pork processing and marketing options. The Small Farmers Appreciation Luncheon and the announcing of the 2012 Small Farmer of the Year will begin at noon in the Alumni-Foundation Event Center. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Homer L. Wilkes, acting associate chief of USDA’s Natural Resources Conservative Service.
Two workshops—offered by the Land Loss Prevention Project, Operation Spring Plant, the Rural Coalition and the Sun Farmers Institute in support of Small Farms Week—will follow the luncheon on Wednesday afternoon.
The farm tours and speakers lineup for Small Farms week include Abdul Chaudhry of Chaudhry Halal Meats; Jennifer Curtis, co-founder and COO, Farmland Foods; Stanley Hughes, Pine Knot Farm; Lee Menius, Wild Turkey Farms; Eliza MacLean, Cane Creek Farm; Casey McKissick, coordinator, NC Choices Sustainable Food System Initiative; Paljinder Manhiani, Foothills Pilot Plant; and Amy Thomas, TX Enterprises.
Other Small Farms Week activities will take place across the state. Check with local Cooperative Extension offices for local events.
