Exhibition opening reception

University Galleries will host two exhibitions, "Celebrating Tomorrow's Artist Today" and "Celebrating Creative Teaching: Guilford County High School Art Exhibition, Jan. 28-March 11. The opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28. The galleries are located in the Dudley Building. For more information call (336) 334-3209.

LEGO competition

The N.C. FIRSTĀ® LEGO League will hold its state competition on A&T's campus,
Saturday, Jan. 29, from noon until 6 p.m. in Corbett Sports Center. This event is hosted annually by the College of Engineering, which also serves as the FLL Operational Partner for North Carolina. Engineering exam reviews

The Office of Continuing Studies and the College of Engineering will offer the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Review Course and the NCEES Professional Engineering (PE) Review Course in Mechanical Engineering on 10 Saturdays this semester, Jan. 29-April 2, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in McNair Hall. Energy audit certification

The Building Performance Institute (BPI) Energy Audit Certification training class will meet Jan. 31-Feb. 4, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Learn the important home energy inspection topics and prepare to pass the included two-hour, 100-question written exam and the two-hour one-on-one field exam. The classroom training teaches the essential knowledge and credentials to perform a home or light commercial energy audit, and the acquired skills set is transferable to many areas including energy conservation, construction and design. Sit-in anniversary celebration

Mark your calendar to attend the Sit-in Anniversary Breakfast, Tuesday, Feb. 1, celebrating the 51st anniversary of the Greensboro Four/A&T Four's historic lunch counter protest at F.W. Woolworth in downtown Greensboro and the awarding of the N.C. A&T Human Rights Medal. SGA President Wayne M. Kimball Jr. will deliver the keynote speech. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Alumni-Foundation Event Center.

ISETCSC Day Research Symposium

The ISETCSC Day Research Symposium will be held Friday, Feb. 11, 2-5 p.m. in the Alumni-Foundation Event Center Ballroom. The symposium is free and open to the public; however, the luncheon is for invited guests only. For more information contact Solomon Bililign, NOAA-ISET director, at (336) 285-2328.

New digs

Michael Cundall

Michael Cundall , has joined N.C. A&T as director of the Honors Program. Cundall comes to A&T from Northwestern State University of Louisiana where he served as assistant director of the Louisiana Scholars' College. Prior to that position, Cundall was assistant dean of the Honors College at Arkansas State University. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy and a bachelor's degree in philosophy and psychology.

Jeffrey Edwards

Jeffrey Edwards, associate professor and chairman of the Department of Economics and Finance, has had an article published in the International Journal of Finance and Economics, 16:32-40 (2011). The paper, "Evaluating Growth Volatility Susceptibility within Regional Free Trade Agreements," was co-authored with Vance Ginn of the Department of Economics and Geography, Texas Tech University.

Lori Hunter

Lori Hunter , has been appointed associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. Hunter most recently served as interim associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. Prior to that, she was assistant dean of student services in the School of Technology. Before coming to A&T, she was associate dean of continuing studies at Wesleyan University. Hunter has a Ph.D. in higher education, a master's degree in higher education administration and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

Gwendolyn McFadden-Wade,associate professor in the Department of Accounting, has received a grant of $14,000 from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. The larger grant, from the Kellogg Foundation to Southern University, established a partnership among several HBCUs to provide free tax preparation services to low and moderate income individuals and working families with children. The grant also supports financial literacy among this population. This type of service is very consistent with the University's broad mission to support the local community, while providing service learning opportunities for student volunteers.

Syrulwah Somah

Syrulwah Somah, associate professor in the Department of Construction Management and Safety, School of Technology, presented a paper on "Occupational Hazards on Human Reproduction" at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, in Manipal, India, on Jan. 15.
